A Montessori school isn't a playschool. It isn't a kind of environment where children
are allowed to 'do as they please. ' In our Montessori class the lessons are
one-on-one presentations.
The Montessori method
established by Dr. Maria Montessori, a physician and educator, was based on her
observations of the child's desire for self-directed learning. She describes a child's 5
senses as the keys to knowledge, and refers to them in scientific and cultural
terms:

"The senses are points of contact with the environment,
and the mind...The child who has worked with our sensorial apparatus has not only acquired
greater skill in the use of his hands, but has also achieved a higher degree of
perceptiveness towards those stimuli which come to him from the outside world.... |

Our class always has mixed age groups for
very pragmatic reasons --such as allowing a child to learn from others, and developing
leadership qualities in others. They are always engaged. Which is why you never see anyone
who is disruptive or bored.

Montessori, we only use approved Montessori materials in the classroom.
